Chariots of the Gods: Planetary Exaltation

Planetary exaltation is one of the five levels of essential dignity and its use has been part and parcel of the astrological corpus for over two thousand years. It was used in ancient Mesopotamian astrology from an era that pre-dates the known use of the zodiac.

Babylonian researchers have pointed out that, since the system is found in the tradition of Enuma Anu Enlil, its roots may extend into the second millennium BCE. Yet for all its antiquity, the modern astrologer still struggles with the nature of exaltation and how it differs from rulership.

This presentation will explore the ancient astronomical and astrological roots of exaltation and how they can provide a basis for modern interpretation and application.
