THE

Foundation of Astrology
This course has been designed to bridge the gap between 21st century astrology and its
traditional roots. The course explores the fundamental principles that underpin Western
horoscopic astrology and presents the student with practical and effective tools of chart
delineation. It is for anyone who is interested in furthering and deepening their understanding
of astrology and feel drawn to reclaim their lineage.
Astrology is about time; it hinges on the cycles of all planets. As the Sun rises in the East
and set in the West defining day and night; so too do the planets move through their orbit
marking the months, years, decades, that define the passage of time through our lives, through
history and our existence on Earth. From our modern view point, traditional astrology may
appear archaic, but its perspective is timeless. The past, present and future are forever
connected through the movements of the Cosmos that is alive and conscious.
What One Gains by Understanding Traditional Astrology
The fundamentals of traditional astrology: signs, planet, house and aspects, are also used in
modern astrology, however there are differences. These differences are at once practical and
philosophical. The philosophical component of traditional astrology is very important; so
much so that in the past astrologers were referred to as philosophers. Re-examining the basic
astrological factors from a new, yet ancient perspective helps enlighten many core principles
bringing more clarity and depth to our relationship with the symbolism of the astrological
language. Coming to understand the rational on which horoscopic astrology is founded,
deepens our understanding of why planets, signs & aspects signify what they do, clarifying
our judgement of transits, returns, progression and profections.
What is Covered in the Course
The course covers all fundamental principles as they are applied to natal charts and from which
more advanced techniques are drawn. Everything needed to do a thorough natal chart
delineation is presented. You will also be introduced to predictive techniques including various
time lord and planetary periods.
• Qualities & Temperaments – the basic building block of astrological delineation.
• Angles & Houses – how and where astrological factors are likely to manifest in the life.
• Planets – what are they and what is their relation to a life
• Zodiac & Signs – our connection to the greater cosmos
• Planetary Condition: Dignity & Fortitude – how this affects the native’s life.
• Aspects & Planetary Relationship – are the planets speaking to each other?
• Reception – the key to understand the interaction of the planets.
• Lots or Arabic Parts – the meaningful extras
• Almutens – who else is in charge.
• Planetary periods, Fidaria and Time Lords – timing in life
• Solar returns and Profections – introducing prediction.
While the focus of the course will be on natal chart delineation, most of the principles learned
can be applied to any astrological investigation, including: Solar return, progressed charts,
mundane and horary. As each principle is presented it will then be applied to charts.
This is a chart driven and interactive course. The participants will be encouraged to
explore and share their own natal charts with the group. It is expected that all participant
will be respectful of privacy and feel confident and safe enough in sharing their insights with
the group.
All relevant principles and techniques are presented within their philosophical and historical
context in order to follow the unfoldment of astrological rationale and wisdom through the
ages. As each principle is presented it will be applied to real charts in order to put into practice
the newfound insights and to experience the beauty, profundity, and practicality of classical
astrological doctrine.
